WHAT IS THE DOWNTOWN ART WALK?
What is known as the “Downtown Art Walk” was founded in 2004 when a handful of art spaces located in Downtown Los Angeles’ Gallery Row decided to open their doors to the public on the same evening each month to encourage people from all over the city to visit the area. For over 16 years, local galleries continued the tradition of receiving visitors on the 2nd Thursday evening of each month, while also hosting special events and official openings at other times. However, due to the effects of the Covid-19 shutdown, the “Art Walk” public art event is evolving.
The remaining Downtown area galleries are open to the public and welcome your visit any time during regular business hours. For links to currently active Downtown galleries, visit the Galleries page on this website, and design your own Art Walk any day of the week!
While our current focus is art placemaking, as well as the promotion of art and cultural events throughout Los Angeles by way of our social media platforms (@downtownartwalk), we also do offer a limited series of guided walking tours of the galleries and art studios, depending on demand.
However, we encourage art fans to create their own self-guided art tour and experience galleries, artist studios, murals, as well and the occasional site-specific installation. While exploring, one can also enjoy the many retail and restaurant offerings in the area.
WHERE ARE THE GALLERIES?
Our Galleries page offers direct links to currently active Downtown galleries located within the walkable Historic Core of Downtown Los Angeles along Spring and Main, between 3rd and 9th Streets. However, art spaces are spreading further out to the Fashion District, South Park, Little Tokyo, and Arts District.
WHERE CAN I GET A GALLERY GUIDE (MAP)?
Please note that while Gallery Guides (Maps) that were published pre-shutdown may still be available at local area galleries, several the art spaces listed are no longer active.
