FOUR SIGHT: Featuring Cornerstone Historic Core Artists Robert Reynolds, Tod George Lychkoff, Miguel Osuna & Gronk

The FOUR SIGHT exhibit at Art/Space 114 (114 W. 4th St. L.A. 90013) firmly anchors the significance of four prolific “cornerstone artists” of Downtown’s Historic Core within the renowned Tom Gilmore corridor of historic buildings honoring the past, present, and future of Downtown’s heartbeat.

Robert Reynolds conveys his wide range of emotions through a ubiquitous mastery of sculpture, painting, assemblage, and installations inspired by controversy, nature, and humanity in all forms. His provocative creations challenge preconceived notions of order and belonging, often bringing what’s outside, inside-out, captivating viewers into lingering a while to figure it out on their own.

Tod Lychkoff was born in Downtown L.A. and is known for his multifaceted, mixed-media works driven by texture, color, and depth, designed to amuse and engage. As an artist living and working in Downtown for over 37 years, his art harnesses the energy of the neighborhood while translating it for humanity to appreciate.

Miguel Osuna studied architecture in Mexico prior to coming to Los Angeles over 25 years ago. His art embodies a deep, obsessive, technical translation of texture and movement, while charming the viewer into taking a long gaze into his undulating mind’s eye by following each line.

Gronk Nicandro has a list of talents and acclaim that are as impressive and noncongruent as Downtown itself. Gronk’s works present an addictive contrast and duality of media and subject matter and non-matter. Consistent, yet fascinatingly inconsistent, whimsical but also challenging, simultaneously dark and vibrant, relatable, yet extraordinary.

This exhibit was made possible by Tom Gilmore, who has been a dedicated supporter of the Downtown Arts Scene for decades, while restoring and reinvigorating forgotten buildings into one of the most desirable zip codes in the region. He consistently and sentimentally lives and feels Downtown through the eyes of its artists. From beautifying his properties by commissioning murals, to activating his most prominent spaces as galleries, collecting art, and generously empowering nonprofit arts organizations to build inclusive, vibrant communities, Tom has invested time, money, and love so the legacies of local artists endure, entertain, educate, and inspire.

“Part of the weight of their work, to me, is due to the geography from which it grows. Their distilled visions during the time, and of the place, we share here in Downtown L.A., propose alternate theses on our common lives and perspectives.” – Tom Gilmore
