It was a hot, dog-days-of-summer afternoon when I rolled out of Pershing Square subway station in Downtown Los Angeles and looked up to discover Angelus, the in-progress and reputed “largest mural in the world by one artist.” It was the rendezvous point for my first meeting with the artist himself, Robert Vargas.
